Hermann Nzi Interview: Future of African Insurance

by Archynetys Economy Desk

Hermann Nzi, Managing Director of Optimus Assurances, shares his reading of the current dynamics of the insurance market. In an environment marked by profound economic and technological changes, the African insurance sector continues its transformation. Despite a still low penetration rate on the continent, players are increasing initiatives to broaden access to insurance products, strengthen policyholder confidence and adapt their offers to local realities.

Between digital innovation, the search for sustainable growth, regional consolidation and the ambition to position insurance as a financing lever for African economies, the sector seems to be entering a more strategic and structuring phase. Beyond the announcements made during recent assemblies of the Federation of African National Insurance Companies (FANAF), this exclusive interview highlights the major challenges of the year, the opportunities to be seized and the vision of a leader committed to the modernization and strengthening of insurance in Africa.

With ten years of experience within several local and international insurance companies — in brokerage, life insurance and non-life insurance — Hermann N’ZI has built a rich career, both human and professional. This path led him, in 2018, to found OPTIMUS, a company specializing in insurance consulting and brokerage.

Its orientation towards the insurance sector is by no means a coincidence. After obtaining his scientific baccalaureate (series D), he was admitted to the entrance examination for the Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB) in Yamoussoukro, in the short cycle course in Commerce and Business Administration (CAE). After completing a common core course, he naturally chose to specialize in insurance.

Hermann N’ZI holds a DUT in Insurance from INP-HB in Yamoussoukro and a Master of Science in management and marketing obtained from IPAG Business School in Paris. He is also an ISO 31000 certified risk manager, consultant, contributor and trainer in insurance, recognized for his expertise and his commitment to the development of the sector.
