Urgent Search Continues for Missing hiker in Vrådal


Intensive Search Efforts Underway

Authorities and volunteers are engaged in an intensive search operation in the Vrådal area of Kviteseid municipality for a German woman in her 40s who went missing early Thursday morning. the search, now entering its second day, is focused on the challenging terrain of the Follegdalhola area.

Details of the Disappearance

The missing woman reportedly departed from her cabin at approximately 8:00 AM on Thursday, accompanied by a small brown dog. When she failed to return, concerned relatives alerted the police, prompting an immediate response.

According to operations manager Espen Reite, visibility in the search area is currently good, aiding search efforts. However, the terrain remains a notable challenge.

Coordinated Search Strategy

The search operation involves a multi-faceted approach, utilizing drones, canine units, and aerial support. A rescue helicopter was deployed to the site to provide an aerial overview of the rugged landscape. The Telemark Red Cross has mobilized significant resources, dispatching 25 crews from 9 different corps to assist in the search.

The police and volunteers are applying with the use of drones, dogs and photographs. A rescue helicopter is on his way to the site.

Challenges and Ongoing Efforts

Despite the coordinated efforts, the search has been hampered by light rain and fog in the area. The challenging terrain also poses risks to ground crews, leading to a strategic decision to prioritize aerial searches during the night.

As of Friday morning, the missing woman had not been located. Authorities are continuing the search, focusing on aerial reconnaissance with drones and helicopters. Plans are also being developed to effectively utilize the numerous volunteers who have offered their assistance.
