Dr. Dmitry Yaranov, one of the most prominent cardiologists in the United States, warned against taking some medications without paying attention, stressing the need to think before using them to protect heart health, according to the “Times of India” website.

Anti-inflammatories

People with pre-existing high blood pressure or heart problems are at greater risk when using NSAIDs frequently, so it is always recommended to consult a doctor before taking these medications.

Chemotherapy drugs

Although cancer drugs save the lives of many patients, some drugs such as doxorubicin and trastuzumab weaken the heart muscle over time, reducing its ability to pump blood.

Yaranov points out that patients who take these medications are often subject to close follow-up to monitor any signs of heart dysfunction.

Steroids

Stimulant medications, especially those prescribed to treat ADHD, are used to improve concentration and alertness through their amphetamine content. However, these medications may increase heart rate and blood pressure, which makes them dangerous for those who have heart problems, as they can lead to irregular heartbeats or even heart attacks. Misuse or taking them without medical supervision causes anxiety, addiction, and serious complications.

Diabetes medications

The doctor explained that some old medications, such as rosiglitazone, increase the risk of heart failure, despite their effectiveness in lowering blood sugar. Therefore, patients are advised not to modify or stop the medication without consulting a doctor to find out the most appropriate option for heart health.

Decongestants

Many people resort to allergy and cold medications that contain decongestants such as pseudoephedrine to relieve symptoms. These medications constrict blood vessels, but they cause high blood pressure and heart arrhythmia, especially in people who suffer from heart disease or high blood pressure, so Yaranoff uses these medications with caution and after consulting a doctor, even if the symptoms seem minor.
