Healthcare Workers Threaten Industrial Action Over Staffing Crisis
The issue has come to a head after thousands of health service workers, including nurses, voted overwhelmingly in favor of industrial action over alleged staffing issues from last year.
The unions representing these workers have yet to decide if they will lodge notice for potential industrial action that could clash with the new government’s plans.
Currently, the public sector’s pay agreement bars any industrial action related to ongoing or future claims, including those within the current pay process.
Under the deal, public servants are due a series of pay rises, with the next increase effective March 1 being 2% or €1,000, whichever is higher.
In a letter to the Health Service Executive (HSE), the unions expressed their executive committees’ commitment to address the mandate received from their members.
