I have recently attended a meeting of health personnel from different areas in which I have participated with great pleasure: the Innovation Seminar in Primary Care, dedicated in this edition to the role of the industry.
In these meetings we sometimes think that we are a kind of sect or a minority group but right there it has been experienced that it is not. Starting because the meeting was held in Madrid at the headquarters of the Collegiate Medical Organization (WTO) of Spain. People who, at some point, have had important public positions and many others who have been advisers have participated. At the scientific level, warmth and humanism twinned with a high level was evident, not only that great magazines in different languages were managed but the rational and dialogic argumentation.
Without any extremism but with all love of truth, the enormous weight that the pharmaceutical industry has in health life has been revealed. Not everyone knows that the pharmaceutical industry makes huge investments in marketing and has intense relationship with the so -called “regulator”, that is, public administration that makes political decisions.
It may surprise that I believe that the relevant thing is to emphasize that pharmacists spend more on marketing than in R&D or medication production.
I found the presence of FERNANDO LAMATAthat he was Secretary of State of Health and explained that much more money is spent than necessary in medication because the benefits of the pharmaceutical industry are well above the manufacturing costs and the reasonable benefits of any company.
We are all paid and therefore the classic principle of “privatization of benefits, socialization of losses” are fulfilled.
Perhaps, the hardest issue that has been discussed, when silence cut the environment, referred to the problems posed by some patients due to excesses of medications. You have to recognize the value of Patricia Vitaller To explain that the use of antidepressants often generates problems in users throughout their sexual life, understood is broadly. She told the feeling of contempt and humiliation that she had lived in more occasion. To top it up the pharmacologist and professor Joan Ramon Laporte explained the real inefficiency of these medications.
Another of the interesting issues that has been raised is that the health model lives a dilemma against the technocratic model that puts everything in the hands of the seemingly contrary technique and model. Between both models it is only possible to find, through small steps, a truly democratic management ..
In the organization of the act he has had a great role right access to the medication.
