The fire broke out this Monday March 9 around 6 p.m., on Chemin du Pivolet in Chaponost, and neighbors quickly alerted the emergency services. “It’s a hay storage shed that’s burning, 1300m² of hay. There is a lot of smoke, a lot of flames that we can see from afar, the whole shed is on fire and we think that the hay will burn for several days. Fortunately, there were no victims: neither person nor animal. And there is no risk of spread, the area is well protected,” says the mayor, Damien Combet, present at the scene of the fire.
50 firefighters mobilized
Significant emergency forces were mobilized: 50 firefighters and 12 engines. According to our observations on site, the firefighters let the hay burn, and monitored the fire very carefully, with fire hoses ready to intervene.
Built in 2022, the shed belongs to a farmer. The solar panels on the roof have completely melted. The origin of the fire is currently undetermined.
