Differentiating between hay fever and COVID-19 can be challenging as some symptoms overlap. Hay fever, also known as seasonal allergies, is typically characterized by symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and a scratchy throat. These symptoms are triggered by allergens like pollen.

COVID-19, conversely, is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. Common symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell. while some COVID-19 symptoms may resemble those of a cold or the flu, the loss of taste or smell is a distinctive indicator of COVID-19.

Key Differences to Watch For

One of the most significant differences lies in the presence of fever. Fever is a common symptom of COVID-19 but is rarely associated with hay fever. Consider the timing and duration of your symptoms. Hay fever symptoms tend to be seasonal and occur predictably during pollen season. COVID-19 symptoms can appear at any time of the year and may last for several days or weeks.
