Haugesund Trade: Christmas Sales After Closure Announcement

HAUGESUND: In January last year, general manager Per Sigvald Lyngholm published a notice that they had to close down Kroneland, and a cease-and-desist sale was initiated.

The shop moved to Sørhaug in November 2022, after having had good years in the same building as Plantasjen in Spannavegen.

At Sørhaug it quickly became difficult. Turnover fell. In 2022, Kroneland had a turnover of well over five million in Spannavegen.

The less central location at Sørhaug made it more difficult to get hold of the customers.

– The difference is that here we have to acquire customers in a different way. In the premises at Spannavegen, all the customers visited the various shops, Lyngholm said half a year after they moved into the new premises.

In January last year, he therefore made a decision to close, but at the same time did not rule out that they could make a comeback.

At the time, he said they were shutting down after failing sales, but wanted to sell off the goods they had in stock.

– It will probably take a couple of months, he said at the time.

DISCONTINUED SALE: This photo was posted on Kroneland’s Facebook in January last year. But they have remained open ever since. Now there is a new cessation sale.

Open all the way

A couple of months have almost turned into a year.

Kroneland is still open, and has recently been running Christmas sales.

Haugesund’s Avis calls Lyngholm again to ask what has happened since the last time.

– The explanation is that, at the request of both customers and employees, we decided to try a little more. We changed the concept a bit, and brought in new products. It soon became clear that it would not be profitable to continue, despite the cost reduction, he writes in an SMS.

Excludes comeback at Sørhaug

But they don’t quite close yet.

– It’s boring to give up, but it will probably still take a few months before we close for good. Now it will be a nice end to be able to please our loyal customers with a clearance sale and sale of Christmas goods.

PLACEMENT TROUBLE: Kroneland has not been successful at Sørhaug, according to the general manager. He misses their old and more central location at Plantasjen and Spar in Spannavegen.

He will not say anything more concrete about when they think they will close the doors.

– It depends on when we can sell out. I am thinking a couple of months before Christmas, writes Lyngholm.

– Is a comeback ruled out this time?

– In that case, there must be another place. There are no concrete plans, he says.

– Is it the location that makes it not profitable enough?

– It’s probably about location. Customers comment daily that it was much better when we were more centrally located, he says.
