HAUGESUND: At 10.45pm on Tuesday evening, the police were called to the Strandgata area following a report of a serious incident of violence.

A woman is said to have been stabbed by a man.

– It appears that she has been a random victim of the assault, says duty manager Dag Magne Gaard at Haugesund police station to Haugesund’s Avis.

The woman, in her late 40s, had several cuts to her legs, says Gaard.

The injuries must not be life-threatening.

Stopped car

The woman who was attacked must have managed to stop a car driving past.

It was the driver of this car who reported the violent incident.

The person took the woman to hospital, says Gaard.

The police have questioned the woman who is injured, says operations manager John Ask in the Sør-West police district.

The man who allegedly stabbed the woman was arrested quickly after the police received information about the incident.

He was later placed in custody.

The man is in his mid-30s, and is known to the police.

Both the injured woman and the man who has been arrested are from Haugesund.
