A Federal Judge of the United States revoked Wednesday (03.09.2025) the freezing of funds ordered by Donald Trump‘s government to Harvard University, a victory for this institution turned into the symbol of the president’s crusade against some higher education centers.
From his return to the White House in January, Trump has accused the prestigious American university of serving as a culture broth for the “Wake” ideology, a pejorative term of the right to designate the policies to promote diversity.
He also accuses her not to properly protect her Jewish and Israeli students during the protests on the campus that demanded a high fire in the Gaza Strip.
In retaliation, the Republican government withdrew more than 2.2 billion dollars in federal subsidies to Harvard, including those for the health sector, and revoked its certification in the Sevis system, through which foreigners are authorized to study in the United States.
Boston Allison Burroughs District Judge spoke after the appeal presented by Harvard against government orders.
“The Court revokes and annuls” the decisions of the administration when considering them a “violation of the first amendment” of the Constitution, said the magistrate in reference to the orders issued as of April 14, 2025.
In his ruling, Burroughs considered that government fund cuts have little impact on the problem of anti -Semitism in the campus that Harvard herself recognized.
“It is evident, even based solely on Harvard’s own admissions, that the university has been affected by anti -Semitism in recent years and could (and should) have approached the problem better,” he wrote.
“That said, there is actually little connection between the investigation affected by the cancellation of subsidies and anti -Semitism,” he added.
