The main Hollywood actors union, SAG-Aftra, will honor the career of the American star, Harrison Ford, at the 61st edition of its awards, which will be held on March 1 in Los Angeles.
“Ford is a singular presence in American life; an actor whose iconic characters have shaped world culture. His career has been endlessly exciting, always returning to his passion for acting. We are honored to celebrate a legend whose impact on our art is indelible,” SAG-Aftra president Sean Astin said in a statement this Thursday.
The actor from the legendary ‘Indiana Jones’ film saga said he felt “deeply honored” by this recognition: “I have spent most of my life on film sets, working alongside incredible actors and crews, and I have always felt grateful to be part of this community,” he added.
Extensive trajectory
With an extensive film career spanning more than 50 years, his role as Bob Falfa in ‘American Graffiti’ (1973) laid the foundations for an actor who achieved global stardom in 1977 with his portrayal of Han Solo in the ‘Star Wars’ saga and elevated the franchise to a cultural phenomenon. In 1981, he debuted another iconic role: archaeologist Indiana Jones.
The American performer has also been a prominent environmental and humanitarian advocate, “serving as vice president of Conservation International and lending his voice to global conservation efforts through EarthShare, Restore Hetch Hetchy and the climate-focused documentary series ‘Years of Living Dangerously,’” noted SAG-Aftra.
