The music society’s spring concert was themed “High School Musical” and put the listeners in the happy mood of the film series and youthful carefreeness. The program was accompanied by an entertaining spectacle. The program also had a lot to offer musically – guaranteeing a varied and atmospheric evening.

Farewell to Julia Wyser

The program of the spring concert was divided into youth music, corps, young drums and drums, each conducted by Julian Inauen, Benjamin Zwick, Lukas Fritsche and Andrin Kuppelwieser.

In keeping with the motto, the youth music opened the evening with “We’re All in This Together”. Afterwards, Julia Wyser, the former youth music conductor, was bid farewell with great thanks for her commitment. She successfully led the young musicians for eight years and now works as a conductor in Sulgen and Dietikon.

With Julian Inauen, a new young conductor has already been found to follow in her footsteps. At the spring concert he led the ensemble through a Coldplay medley, the reverent “Highland Cathedral” and the cheerful pieces “Maya the Bee” and “Y. M.C.A.».

Damian is looking for a connection

After an initial break, the audience was introduced to the corps’ program with a cheerleading performance. This second part of the evening’s entertainment told the story of the Swiss Damian – played by Damian Manser – who has to find his way as a new student at a German high school. This acting framework was complemented by appropriate musical contributions from the corps.

After initial difficulties with integration, Damian’s class teacher advises him to find a hobby. His German friend (played by Lukas Bosch) supports him. Damian first tries out ballet and judo, accompanied musically by the “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” and Hans Zimmer’s “Kung Fu Panda”. But both hobbies don’t convince him. Even as a dinosaur mascot during the prelude to the film music from “Jurassic Park” there was no success. Damian would rather assert himself in wrestling – fittingly, the piece “Urnerbode-Kafi” takes him back to his homeland. In the meantime, he was also overcome by homesickness, which the corps took up with a version of the band Plush’s hit of the same name.

However, when he finds out that there will be a village festival with tambours, Damian is highly motivated. Eventually he is accepted into the group and thus finds his calling as a drummer.

Foretaste of the move

The last part of the program began with an theatrical production of the drum parade through the main street. This will take place in the summer as part of the 25th Eastern Swiss Drum, Pipe and Clairon Competition (July 3rd to 5th, 2026). The competitions promise a musically high-quality event that is accompanied by festivities. At the spring concert, the audience was able to enjoy the diversity and precision of the young drummers and drum group of Harmonie Appenzell. The guests also heard a Clairon number.

At the end, one last impressive piece was performed – without any instruments. With the “Hand Beat” the tambours impressed the audience by sitting in a row and creating a rhythmic piece by tapping and clapping.

The Holdrioo band continued the evening musically, offering a successful conclusion to a spring concert that was characterized by a variety of music, entertainment and a good atmosphere.
