Afs, AI hair loss diagnosis solution
Immediate diagnosis by scanning the head in 1 minute
Received CES Innovation Award and introduced to 40 hospitals
As the number of people experiencing stress due to hair loss increases, they post photos of their crown or forehead on various hair loss communities and ask, ‘Is this a symptom of hair loss?’ There are a lot of posts asking about this. As the number of young people trying to prevent hair loss is rapidly increasing, Kim Tae-hee, CEO of Afs, is targeting overseas markets by developing a technology that can immediately diagnose hair loss using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
AFS’ representative product is ‘AFS 3D’, a precise diagnosis solution for skin, scalp, and hair loss that combines three-dimensional (3D) scanning and AI analysis technology. APS developed the world’s first 3D-based hair loss diagnosis technology. After scanning the entire head and face for about one minute, the micro diagnostic device analyzes hair loss-related indicators such as the number of hair follicles, density, and thickness and presents the results. 3D data visualization materials are popular because they increase diagnostic reliability and help patients intuitively understand.
AFS 3D, which also won the AI category innovation award at ‘CES 2025’, is expanding its market by exporting to 7 countries around the world.
CEO Kim first entered the hair loss business in 2013, taking charge of pharmaceutical and medical device sales at a company called ‘Inojin.’ In 2015, beyond his existing sales experience, he founded MD Cell, which produces cosmetics and medical devices for hospitals.
CEO Kim said, “The hair loss industry is growing steadily, but hospitals and clinics lack proper equipment, so many diagnoses rely on subjective judgment. I founded Aps in 2018 with the belief that accurate diagnosis is essential for successful hair loss treatment.”
APS currently holds more than 12 patents and its own software and database. Its versatility, allowing it to be used in medical, beauty, and clinical settings, is also considered an advantage.
CEO Kim said, “We provide solutions for the entire diagnostic process rather than simply selling equipment, and are currently being used in about 40 hospitals in Korea. We have a differentiated research and development (R&D) structure, with a medical professional serving as co-CEO, opening a hospital directly to develop equipment, and working on research by securing related clinical trials and data.”
APPS plans to expand the European and American markets in earnest in the future. CEO Kim said, “We will build a 3D skin and hair big data platform and develop an integrated control system for patients and clinics,” and added, “The goal is to establish Aps’ technology as an international standard diagnostic protocol.” APS plans to expand its business into integrated skin and hair loss prevention and management services.
