With representation they celebrate the 366th anniversary of the Foundation of Ciudad Juárez

Monday, December 8, 2025

As part of the actions carried out by the Municipal Government on the occasion of the 366th anniversary of the founding of Ciudad Juárez, this morning a historical representation was held outside the Mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The commemoration began with the participation of matachines, whose drums and gourds resonated among the aroma of incense.

The Music Band of the Directorate of Education, as well as the escort and war band of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, accompanied the solemn act that recreated the historical passage of December 8, 1659, when Fray García de San Francisco, heeding the call of the captains and elders of the meek Indians to preach the Gospel, blessed the territory, raised the cross, built a small church of sticks and mud, built a convent and dedicated the conversion of the temple to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

366 years after that episode, the act was performed again in that same place by historians and dancers.

The formal ceremony was led by Jorge Ignacio Frausto Ojeda and was also attended by Don Cruz Camargo and his wife Amadita, who are descendants of Governor Juan Manso, who asked Fray García to preach the Gospel to them.

Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, accompanied by his wife Rubí Enríquez and municipal officials, placed a wreath at the sculpture of Fray García de San Francisco, installed outside the Guadalupe Mission.

In his message, he expressed that a little more than four years after beginning his term as municipal president, he thanks God for the opportunity to govern the city where he was born.

He recognized that after 366 years of its founding, the growth of Juárez can be observed, a city whose challenges do not end, but that has advanced significantly.

He stated that today Juárez is a world power in which companies choose to settle on this border because of the quality of its people.

He indicated that the commitment to the city must be ratified and the effort intensified without letting our guard down.

The ceremony concluded with the singing of Las Mañanitas performed by the Mariachi Oro Juvenil of the Directorate of Education.

The president of the Municipal DIF, Rubí Enríquez, attended the representation; Sergio Rodríguez, general director of Civil Protection; Jesús Manuel García, coordinator of Road Safety, the head of Municipal Public Safety, César Omar Muñoz Morales; the coordinator of Directors, Enrique Licón; Councilor Jorge Bueno; the Municipal Trustee, Ana Carmen Estrada; the director of Education, Guillermo Alvídrez Olivas; the parish priest of Cathedral, Eduardo Hayen and students from the Francisco Zarco Primary School.
