The Gyeonggi Provincial Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 26th that as a result of a safety investigation on eco-friendly agricultural products sold at 62 distribution stores in the province from January to November of this year, all 249 cases subject to inspection were judged ‘suitable’.
The Provincial Health and Environment Research Institute collected samples from a total of 62 distribution stores, including large supermarkets, department stores, food ingredient marts, small and medium-sized marts, and online shopping malls in 25 cities and counties, and conducted a detailed analysis.
A total of 249 items were inspected, including 63 organic agricultural products and 186 pesticide-free agricultural products. By item, there were 135 vegetables, 60 mushrooms, 21 grains, 15 fruits, 15 documents, and 3 nuts and seeds.
As a result of analysis of pesticide residues, no pesticide residues were detected in all items.
Eco-friendly agricultural products are agricultural products that are produced and managed without or reducing the use of chemically synthesized pesticides and fertilizers. Organic agricultural products are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and pesticide-free agricultural products are produced without the use of pesticides and by limiting the amount of chemical fertilizers used within the standard range.
Do Young-sook, head of the agricultural and fisheries product inspection department at the Provincial Health and Environment Research Institute, said, “Through this survey, we once again confirmed the management level and safety of eco-friendly agricultural products distributed in the province.” He added, “We will continue to conduct safety guard inspections for agricultural products in the future to increase the trust of residents in eco-certified agricultural products and strengthen safety management at the distribution stage.”
