The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officially detained former special staff (stafsus) of the former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA) alias Gus Alex. He was detained after undergoing examination as a suspect today.
Monitoring detikcom at the Red and White KPK building, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Tuesday (17/3/2026), when he was about to be detained, Gus Alex was seen coming down from the 2nd floor of the examination room. When he came down, Gus Alex appeared to be wearing an orange KPK prisoner vest.

Both of Gus Alex’s hands were also handcuffed. When he came down, Gus Alex was accompanied by KPK investigators.
It is known that Gus Alex is undergoing examination as a suspect in the alleged corruption case for the 2023-2024 Hajj quota today. Gus Alex arrived at the KPK’s Red and White building at 08.20 WIB and was immediately questioned by investigators.
Gus Alex’s role
The KPK has revealed Gus Alex’s role in this case. Gus Alex, said the KPK, helped Yaqut a lot in distributing additional Hajj quotas which actually did not comply with the provisions.
Gus Alex also requested that officials at the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) ask for money from the organizers of the special Hajj pilgrimage (PIHK) as fee because they have been given an additional quota for the special Hajj. Fee that is what Yaqut as Minister of Religion and Gus Alex himself finally got.
However, regarding the exact amount fee obtained by Gus Alex and Yaqut, the KPK explained that it was still carrying out calculations.
“We’ll just wait and see how much YCQ receives. We’ll just have to wait and see how much YCQ receives,” explained Asep.
Yaqut Has Been Detained
Former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) was officially detained by the Corruption Eradication Committee in the Hajj quota corruption case. Yaqut claims not to have received a penny.
“I never received a penny from the case that was accused against me,” said Yaqut, when he was brought by the KPK, Thursday (12/3).
Yaqut also said that during his time as Minister of Religion, he made policies for the sake of the Indonesian congregation.
“And I carry out all these policies solely for the safety of the congregation,” he said.
Yaqut was named a suspect in early January 2026. Yaqut had challenged his suspect status from the KPK to court. However, Yaqut’s pretrial lawsuit was rejected by the judge.
