A series of gunshots were heard near the Venezuelan Presidential Palace at midnight Monday (5/1). This latest incident occurred several days after United States (US) military forces attacked the capital Caracas and arrested President Nicolas Maduro.
A source close to the Venezuelan government, as reported AFPTuesday (6/1/2026), said that the situation was under control.
The source said that a number of unidentified drones were detected flying above the Miraflores Palace in downtown Caracas on Monday (5/1) evening.

Venezuelan security forces, the source said, opened fire in response to the appearance of the drones at around 20.00 local time.
The incident occurred hours after Venezuela’s Vice President, Delcy Rodriguez, was sworn in as interim president following the overthrow of Maduro by the US.
According to a local resident, whose house is five blocks from the Venezuelan Presidential Palace, a series of gunshots were heard, but not as strong as the US attack in the early hours of Saturday (3/1) which resulted in Maduro’s arrest.
The resident, who did not want to be named, said that the incident lasted about one minute.
“The first thing that came to my mind was to see if there were planes flying overhead, but there weren’t any. I only saw two red lights in the sky,” said the local resident.
“Everyone was looking out the window to see if there were any planes, to see what was going on,” he said.
Venezuela’s Communications Ministry did not immediately respond to the report.
Videos uploaded to social media show what appears to be tracer ammunition shooting into the sky. The video shows many members of the security forces rushing to the Presidential Palace after gunshots were heard.
