Already during the second period of Wednesday’s quarter-finals of the Olympic hockey tournament between the Czech Republic and Canada, social networks were filled with hateful comments from enraged Canadian fans. This was due to the situation in the first half of the second period, in which Radko Gudas came into contact with Sidney Crosby at the goalpost, so that a few seconds later the 38-year-old captain of the hockey players with a maple leaf on his chest ended definitively after clashing again with the Czech defender and Martin Nečas.
But it didn’t just stop at the fans’ reactions, the X network account belonging to the Spittin Chiclets podcast declared Gudas public enemy number 1. Among the fans of Canadian hockey, as well as of Pittsburgh hockey, where Crosby wears the captain’s badge, it was full of profanity and inappropriate threats. “Hey, Radko Gudasi, this is for our captain, whom you tried to knock out,” then the win in extra time was a satisfaction for journalist Daniel Escolan, for example.
Crosby never returned to the Olympic ice in a competitive match. He didn’t even play in the semi-final against Finland, which Canada, like the quarter-final battle with the Czech Republic, ended up saving at the last minute, and it was already clear ahead of time that he wouldn’t even fight for the gold with America. “You have to make a decision that’s best for the team. It wasn’t easy, but that’s hockey,” explained the experienced forward before Sunday’s game, saying he wouldn’t help the team enough.
In the final, which received great recognition among the fans and the professional public for its quality, the Canadians produced over forty shots, but only one went past the back of the great catcher Connor Hellebuyck, and at the end of overtime, Jack Hughes decided on the first Olympic triumph for the USA since 1960.
And who was to blame for Canada’s failure? The productivity of the hockey players there? But where… According to many fans and experts, the main culprit is none other than Radko Gudas!
Behind bars with him
The anger came again not only from the fan ranks, where one can somehow assume that what is in the heart, is in the language, or rather on social networks, but also from the world of journalism. “Radko Gudas should be booed in every Canadian NHL arena for the rest of his life,” said the uncompromising ESPN data journalist Rachel Kryshaková, who is dedicated to hockey.
Even stricter would be the administrator of the Red Hot Hockey site. “Radko Gudas belongs in prison,” he is clear. He added a photo from the incriminated clash with Crosby to his opinion, so that no one would doubt why the Czech representative should be behind bars.

Canadian and Pittsburgh fans are much more intransigent in their verdicts and there is no shortage of inappropriate vulgarity and threats, over which reason remains standing even taking into account the frustration they must be experiencing these days.
On the contrary, in America the mood is diametrically different. “There should be a statue of Radek Gudas in every state,” he asks for a tribute to the bearded hockey player and the son of a former representative Lea Gudase podcast author JD Bunkis.
It seems likely that the Anaheim quarterback will be in for a truly varied welcome upon his return overseas.
