Atletico Madrid have confirmed their all-time leading goalscorer Antoine Griezmann will join Major League Soccer side Orlando in the summer.
Atletico said Griezmann, who has scored 211 goals in 488 appearances for the LaLiga club, had recently travelled to Orlando with their permission to finalise a two-year contract, with the option of a further year.
“Atletico de Madrid and Orlando City SC have reached an agreement over the transfer of Antoine Griezmann to the American club beginning next season,” Atletico said.
Orlando owner and chairman Mark Wilf added: “Bringing Antoine to Orlando is a landmark moment not only for our club, but for our city, our supporters and for Major League Soccer.
“He is one of the most gifted, accomplished and influential players of his generation and his decision to choose Orlando City reflects the mission and culture of our club.”
Griezmann, a World Cup winner with France in 2018 and runner-up in 2022, joined Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014.
He became the world’s sixth most expensive signing at the time when joining Barcelona for €123m in 2019 before returning to the Metropolitano Stadium in 2021.
