The Greens gave the government made up of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS a devastating assessment on its first anniversary. The politics of the three-party coalition is characterized by “increasing injustice,” criticized Green Party leader and club chairwoman Leonore Gewessler on Monday during an action in front of the Federal Chancellery: “While the cuts affect the middle of the population, the super-rich can continue to do so.”

With an out-of-balance scale, the Greens symbolically drew attention in front of the Chancellery to what they saw as the injustice that had taken place in the building on Ballhausplatz. Of course, the budget needs to be consolidated, says Gewessler: “The question is not whether, but how.” Currently, it is the middle of society that has to bear the entire burden, the Green Party leader recalled, for example, with the increase in prices for public transport tickets, the abolition of the climate bonus, various fee increases and the increased health insurance contributions.
“The super-rich, on the other hand, still don’t have to make a contribution,” emphasized Gewessler: “And this social imbalance and increasing injustice make people in this country angry.” The Green Party’s petition for an inheritance tax has now gained 30,000 supporters, reported the Green Party leader: “And we will continue to put the issue of justice at the center of our politics.” Let this be the “foundation” of society and not “nice to have”. The Green Party leader called for a “fair budget consolidation” without destroying social balance.
