Sequel Speculations: The Future of Goonies
The conversation naturally turned to speculation about a potential sequel to The Goonies. Ke Huy Quan admitted that he is frequently asked about the possibility of a sequel. “It’s one of the most asked questions in my life,” he shared. “I would love for it to happen.” Feldman also expressed his openness to the idea, saying, “All I can say is, get us all together.” He added that during a previous attempt a decade ago, he and Sean Astin had worked on a sequel concept that they tried to pitch to Richard Donner.
Corey Feldman detailed, “Sean and I worked really hard on this, and it was a really great idea.” However, their efforts were hindered by Donner’s vision for the sequel. “He wanted to make it small, about the characters—more of a film about these people and where they are now,” Feldman explained. Despite the setback, the cast remains open to the idea. “Everybody is looking good. Sean’s looking good. Josh is looking good. We’re all looking good still, and we’re all alive. Goonies never say die… There’s hope,” Feldman concluded.
