The world of major consumer operating systems is dominated by just three companies: Microsoft with Windows, Apple with macOS and iOS (+ offshoots) and Google with Android and ChromeOS. The positions have been taken for a long time: Google dominates a large part of the smartphone market, Microsoft dominates the desktop and Apple cooks its own soup in both areas, practically out of competition.
Microsoft has failed quite spectacularly to bring Windows to the mobile world, which CEO Satya Nadella described several years ago as its biggest oversight and perhaps its worst mistake. A mistake that has so far had largely no consequences – but that could change very soon. After Google has practically ignored the desktop for many years, they want to really attack it next year.
Android is pushing its way onto the desktop

While Android would have a great chance against Windows based on its popularity alone, ChromeOS is certainly underestimated – especially now that the operating system is on shaky ground due to the upcoming Android merger. Currently it looks as if the merger will only be carried out in the private user area ChromeOS to the business operating system that can be used by companies.
Google has just presented a new package from its relatively young subsidiary Cameyo Windows apps on ChromeOS can be used. Now the project has full Google support and makes it possible to replace Windows computers with Chromebooks. It is aimed very explicitly at corporate customers and yet shoots quite violently against Windows.
While Windows dominated both the office and at home before the smartphone era, many people today come into contact with it primarily at work or in the home office, while their private smartphone or tablet is sufficient. Google’s Cameyo relaunch is a clear attack on the business sector, which is even more lucrative than the consumer market. This makes it the second rail of the Windows attack.
Android versus consumer Windows and ChromeOS versus business Windows. If you approach this correctly, Microsoft will have to really step up its game again after many years.
