RCS in Google Messages was planned for a long time and has been available for a long time, but the developers still have to integrate some outstanding functions so that messages can keep up with other messenger apps. This includes even simple things as a mentioned function that will soon be available in group chats.
The feature could now be discovered in the beta, it is currently in development. The function makes it possible to address certain participants directly in group chats in order to attract their attention. We already know this from other apps, WhatsApp has mastered the mention with a preceding @ for some time.

So the user taps the @ and then the name of the person who is to be addressed directly in the chat. This is particularly useful in larger groups. In addition, the person mentioned is visually highlighted in the message and is therefore easier to see. Despite the leak, it is not clear when the feature will be rolled out final.
