The Google Messages beta has historically provided a reliable experience,but a current bug is causing the app to crash when users try to share images and links.

The specific issue lies within the Google Messages “Select recipients” screen, which displays recent conversations and the full contacts list.

Consequently of the bug, users have to manually copy and paste links they wont to send. Images must be saved to the device and shared via the Gallery inside a thread.

This issue is present in version 20250610_00_RC02.phone.openbeta_dynamic on Pixel and Samsung devices. The current stable release (20250528_00_RC00.phone_dynamic) is unaffected. google is expected to release a Messages beta update by Monday to address this issue.

Users experiencing significant disruption can exit the beta program, uninstall updates to Google Messages from App info, and then update the app in the Play Store.

In other news, Google Messages is testing a Material 3 Expressive redesign of Settings. The redesign places all list items in a container, and M3 on/off toggles are in use. This update is not yet widely available.
