Application adds more detailed 3D maps and an AI that answers questions about locations.
O Google Maps is one of the applications that is constantly improving its interface, with changes in design and addition of elements to help users better orient themselves on maps. This Thursday (12), Google presented another update to the application, redesigning visual elements and adding more AI resources to provide the Biggest update in a decade of the application.
Immersive Navigation
With the Immersive Navigationthe company brings maps to life with a 3D visualization with dimensions of buildings, overpasses and the surrounding terrain. The promise is to offer a more intuitive experience for users, allowing the user to even see lanes and not just a single line to guide themselves during the journey.
This allows Maps to highlight information such as vehicle lanes, pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and signs much more easily, in addition to presenting route instructions in a more intuitive way, such as smooth or more complicated curves. This view also helps you prepare for lane changes in advance.

In addition, Maps is gaining voice guidance improvements that are becoming more natural, as if a “friend were navigating with you”, explains Google.
Another update is in the alternative routes presented, which will now explain the advantages or disadvantages of following these paths. For example, the application may inform you about a longer trip, but with less traffic, or a faster one, but with a toll.
Maps will also provide guidance when getting close to the destination, such as nearby parking lots, the side of the street on which the user should park and the entrance to the building, for example.
Ask Maps
The Maps update will also bring AI improvements to offer a new interaction experience with the application, which can answer complex questionssuch as “where can I charge my cell phone without having to wait in a long line for coffee” or “public tennis courts with lights”.
Location questions like these can be asked by tapping the button Ask Mapswhich will use travel-specific information about the world, being able to personalize responses to user queries.

An example given by Google is the functionality’s ability to offer recommendations on stopping places during long trips. In this case, the AI will gather clear instructions, estimated arrival times and point recommendations from those who have already visited that location.
Availability of new Google Maps features
The bad news is that these features are not yet available in Portugal. So far, Google has announced that the new Ask Maps and Immersive Navigation are initially being launched in the United States and India. But the expectation is that these new features will not take long to reach more countries.
