Google Maps New Feature for Drivers

by drbyos

According to the new feature announced by Google Maps senior product manager Rio Akasaka, all you have to do is connect your iPhone to your car via USB, Bluetooth or CarPlay.

When you finish driving and get out of the car, Google Maps automatically marks your parking spot and the recorded location is stored for up to 48 hours.

When you get back into the vehicle and start driving, the icon disappears by itself.

IT WAS PREVIOUSLY SAVED MANUALLY

Previously, users could save parking space manually; What’s new is that the process is now completely automated.

Google has also rolled out a new update that can use user-selected custom vehicle icons instead of the default “P” sign as the parking location icon. Special vehicle icons were first added in 2020, and eight new vehicle designs were added this year.

ONLY WORKS ON iOS

The automatic parking save feature is currently only available on iOS. Android also has a parking reminder system, but it does not disappear unless the user manually removes the parking icon.

This new automation makes tracking parking spaces much more effortless for Google Maps users.
