Google Calling Card Update: What You Need to Know

Can now be more practical

Google is testing a new feature for calling cards in its phone app.

Google appears to be preparing a new feature in its phone app that will give users more control over how their calling card is displayed to others, reports the publication Android Authority. The calling card feature has been spotted in a test version of the app and suggests that users will soon be able to create a personalized presentation that appears when they call someone.

Call Cards is a feature that already allows users to customize how incoming calls look from certain contacts. Until now, however, there has been no easy way to control how you present yourself when you call others. The new setting could solve this by allowing the user to create their own calling card that is used externally.

In the current test version there is a button to create your own calling card, but the function is not yet active. It is also unclear how the app will handle situations where both the caller and the person receiving the call have their own calling cards for the caller. The question is whether the user gets to choose which card to display, or whether Google determines a standard.

Since the information comes from a so-called APK teardown, where developers review the app’s code, there are no guarantees that the feature will actually launch. Google has yet to publicly comment on the discovery.
