Google Launches premium AI Subscription Tier: AI Ultra

Google has officially launched its most comprehensive AI subscription package, AI Ultra, offering users unparalleled access to its suite of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies. This declaration, made on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, marks a significant step in Google’s strategy to democratize AI, albeit initially within the United States.

Shimrit Ben Yir, Vice president of Google Photos and Google One, confirmed that the Google AI Ultra subscription is currently exclusive to the US market. The subscription aims to provide users with complete access to Google’s AI models and premium features.

Unlocking a Universe of AI Capabilities

The AI Ultra subscription unlocks a wide array of features across several Google applications. Subscribers gain full access to premium functionalities within Gemini, Flow, Whisk, NotebookLM, Project Mariner, and YouTube Premium. Furthermore, the subscription extends to Gemini integration within core Google services like Gmail, Docs, and Vids, and also Gemini in Chrome. To support this enhanced access, subscribers receive a massive 30 TB of storage across Google Photos, drive, and Gmail.

AI Ultra joins the AI Premium Family

Google AI Ultra represents the second tier in Google’s AI premium offerings, following the introduction of Google AI Pro. The unveiling of AI Ultra coincided with Google I/O 2025, the company’s annual developer conference, highlighting Google’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI innovation.

Enhancements to AI Pro and Expanded Educational Access

Existing Google AI Pro subscribers will also benefit from expanded features, including access to Gemini in Chrome and AI film-making capabilities within the Flow application, now powered by the Veo 2 model. Similar to AI Ultra, these enhancements are initially available to US customers, with plans for future international expansion.

In a move to promote AI education, Google is extending free access to Google AI Pro for one academic year to students in Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, and Great Britain, in addition to the United States. This initiative aims to empower the next generation with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.

Subscription Costs and market Impact

The Google AI Ultra subscription is priced at $249.99 per month in the US. While this positions it as a premium offering, the comprehensive access to AI tools and increased storage capacity may appeal to power users and professionals who rely heavily on Google’s ecosystem. The introduction of AI Ultra reflects the growing demand for advanced AI capabilities and the increasing integration of AI into everyday applications. As AI technology continues to evolve, subscription models like Google AI Ultra are likely to become more prevalent, offering users flexible and scalable access to the latest innovations.
