A trainee pilot and his instructor are safe at home with minor injuries after thier plane crashed on a golf course.the incident occurred yesterday while trainee Brian Welch was piloting a Piper Cherokee, guided by his instructor, Ross Curracan.

Golf tee times proceeded as planned this morning, despite the unusual obstacle on the course. The maintenance team faced a more important challenge than usual in preparing the grounds.

Simon Thomas, the plane’s owner, was at the Swans game when he learned about the incident. “The first thing was to make sure they were alright, which was the main priority, and then we handled the rest,” he stated. “Its been a hectic experience.”

Thomas had purchased the plane in October of the previous year for his 19-year-old son to learn to fly. Airspeed Flight School Shellharbour commended “the instructors’ skill and ability to keep a cool head in a critical situation”.

The aircraft is beyond repair and will be scrapped. Heavy machinery was used to remove the 900-kilogram wreckage from the course, allowing for repairs to the damaged grass.Thomas mentioned he’ll “have to talk to his wife” about replacing the plane.
