Astronaut Johnny Kim, a 41-year-old Korean-American currently stationed on the International Space Station (ISS), has shared his unique culinary creation with the world: the “Gochujang Burger.” this innovative dish combines familiar flavors with the constraints of space travel,offering a comforting taste of home amidst the rigors of scientific exploration.
Deconstructing the “Gochujang Burger”
Kim unveiled his space-faring menu on social media, showcasing the key ingredients: tube-type cheese, processed meat, and, most importantly, gochujang (Korean red pepper paste). These components are carefully assembled on MRE (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) biscuits, creating a makeshift burger that satisfies both hunger and a craving for familiar tastes.

Johnny Kim’s path to the stars is a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional abilities. In 2017, he was selected as one of the final 12 candidates from a pool of approximately 1600 applicants in NASA’s astronaut selection program. After rigorous training, he officially earned the title of NASA astronaut in 2020, marking a meaningful milestone as one of the first Korean-American NASA astronauts.
