If you are one of the billion Gmail users, it’s time to view your account settings immediately. Google has distributed a clear and strict warning: to save your account security, it is necessary to give up traditional passwords and move on to much more modern login methods.
As the number of digital attacks grew (cybercriminals stole more than last year alone than € 14.1 billion), technology giant calls its users urgently updated login systems. The company is particularly actively encouraged to use Access keys ( passkeys) – a technology that allows you to confirm the identity of the fingerprint, face recognition or PIN.
“We want to completely eliminate passwords and keep as simple login as possible, so we strongly recommend using modern methods,” Evan Kotsovinos, head of Google, told Express.
While younger generations like Gen Z have already adapted to these technologies, data show that More than 60 % of Generation X still uses simple passwordsmaking it a light target for hackers. In addition, only 30 % of all users use safe login methods daily.
For those who are not yet ready to completely give up passwords, Google recommends at least activated approval by two steps – An additional security level that sends a unique code to a user’s phone if someone tries to connect to an account from an unknown device.
How to activate access keys?
This process is surprisingly fast and simple:
- Log in to your Google Account.
- Go to the section “Sauga” (Security).
- Choose “How do you join Google (How you sign in to Google).
- Click “Access keys” (Passkeys) and follow the instructions to create them.
This change will not only enhance protection against cyber attacks, but will also simplify the login process. This is an inevitable transformation in a world where cybercriminals are becoming more and more smarter.
The conclusion is clear: If you are still using weak or repetitive passwords, it’s time to go forward. Your Gmail account (and all personal information in it) will be incomparably safer.
