Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The earth will be approached by a giant comet called C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) in October 2025. The community is said to be able to see the appearance of the comet with the help of a telescope.
Comet Lemmon was found in the Lemmon Survey (MLS) mount with a 60 -inch Cassegrain reflector telescope (1.52 meters). The telescope has a camera with a resolution of 10560×10560 pixels.
MLS does continue to scan the heaven and look for objects that approach the earth. Most findings are asteroids but also find new comets.
When immortalized by Astronomer David Fulls on January 3, initially the MLS thought the object was another asteroid, but it turned out to be a comet.
When found a comet has a very dimly dim light point. From the pre-discovery image, the light was found much darker since it was discovered in November 2024.
On November 12, 2024 to August 14, 2025, comet orbit was recorded in 117 positions. Syuichi Nakano from the Astronomy Telegram Center Bureau who recorded all of them found the comet to reach the closest point to the Sun, regarding the upcoming November 8, 2025.
At that time, he said the comet distance with the sun reached 79.25 million km.
Two weeks before reaching the sun, the comet will pass through the earth on October 20, 2025. At that time the object was at the closest distance of 89.16 million km, quoted from Space, Wednesday (9/10/2025).
Regarding the appearance when crossing the earth, comet expert from Japan, Seiichi Yoshida and Gideon van Buitenen from the Netherlands said comets would be between magnitude +4 and +5 at the peak. This means that the Lemmon comet is likely to look vague when seen with the naked eye next month.
But there is another opinion about Lemmon in October. Daniel We Green from the Astronomy Telegram Central Bureau said in his circular the possibility of comet in Magnitude +7.3 on October 27.
If true, the comet is too dark seen with the naked eye. But it can still be observed through binoculars.
Lemmon will be seen in the afternoon sky around northwest 90 minutes after sunset starting October 12, 2025.
Then, the comet is around 1 degree of the upper left of the Coroli Star in the Canes Venatici constellation on October 16, 2025. At that time Lemmon will move 4 degrees per day and on October 22, the comet will be at 10 degrees from the bootes constellation.
