Two men, aged 24 and 26, were arrested for their suspected involvement in voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.
The police said they received a call for assistance in the vicinity of Sims Avenue on Aug 29 at about 6.40am.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men purportedly got into a dispute with a 51-year-old man and allegedly attacked him with a chopper.
The older man sustained injuries and was conscious when taken to the hospital.
The alleged attack took place outside a coffee shop at Lorong 25A Geylang, reported Shin Min Daily News.
A coffee shop worker said the older man had finished his meal and was sitting outside the coffee shop. The two younger men walked to the older man’s table and subsequently, the three of them walked to the street.
“The uncle was bleeding profusely after being hacked, and he was running and shouting while two young men were chasing him with kitchen knives,” said the worker.
“It was really scary!”
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the identities of the two younger men and arrested them within five hours of the report.
The two suspects were expected to be charged in court on Aug 30 with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons with common intention.
The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 15 years or life imprisonment, a fine or caning.
