European boost?
The European trajectory is becoming increasingly important for Genk. In the competition, Nicky Hayen’s team is unable to seize the momentum. Under the new coach, the people of Genk have still not won in the Jupiler Pro League, and a late goal from Cercle Brugge spoiled the party this weekend as well.
And so the Europa League is the ideal place to give the season an extra sparkle. “You can feel the joy in Europe,” Hayen said at the press conference. “Maybe because there is less pressure on that match, even though we would really like to skip that intermediate round.”
“We want to play dominant football and put a lot of pressure, but then the physical parameters are very important. We are currently lagging behind, but we want to get rid of that as quickly as possible.” Will we see improvement tonight?
