Both the US Secretary of State and Ukraine’s negotiator praise the progress in the talks in Geneva on Sunday, where the negotiations on a peace plan between Ukraine and Russia have taken place.
– There is still a lot of work to be done, but we have come much further in the negotiations, says US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio on Sunday evening.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has been in contact with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha several times during the day.
– I note that both Marco Rubio, but also Adrij Jermark, who is the head of negotiations from the Ukrainian side, have spoken about progress today. And that there have been substantial discussions around all the points in this Trump plan. And we also know that the Europeans have come up with a lot of input, says Espen Barth Eide to NRK on Sunday evening.
He believes that one of the most important issues is the topic of territory.
– It is completely unacceptable for Ukraine to give up territory that they hold militarily, for which they have fought through blood, sweat and tears for many years – that now it will only be handed over to Russia without negotiation, says Eide
– We will see what happens tomorrow, he adds.
