The facade of the building is still gray, still straight out of the 1980s. You have to take the elevator, heading to the 6th and 7th floors, to see the metamorphosis. In the Prévost building of the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG), the long dark corridors of cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology and the infectious diseases department have given way to vast waiting rooms furnished with imitation leather seats and screens, brand new consultation boxes and state-of-the-art sterilization equipment. A real estate project like any other? Rather the beginning of “a real strategic transformation”, maintains HUG director Robert Mardini.

On Thursday, after two and a half years of work, HUG presented to the press the results of the first phase of renovation and reorganization of some of their key premises. The oncology, endocrinology, diabetology, and hematology services will also have a facelift in 2026 and 2027. “The objective is clear: anticipate and absorb the increase in outpatient care,” explained Robert Mardini.
