Mexico City, August 20 (El Universal) .- The defense of former Mexican Secretary of Security Genaro García Luna denounced the “extreme” abuse conditions that his client has suffered since he is imprisoned in the United States and his lack of access to the legal documents of the case against him. They also said that due to poor diet, it has lost 14 kilos.
In two letters aimed at the Court of Appeals of the Second Circuit of New York, lawyers César de Castro and Valerie Gotlib said that just July 31 could speak with García Luna for the first time since January, after several unsuccessful attempts.
The former Mexican public official was transferred from an Oklahoma prison to the Maximum Security prison Adx Florence, in Colorado, the same where Joaquín Guzmán Loera, “El Chapo”, fulfills his life sentence.
García Luna was sentenced last October to 38 years in prison for drug trafficking and organized crime, after being indicated to be an accomplice and receive bribes from the Sinaloa cartel.
However, García Luna’s defense makes in his letters a review of the situation his client has lived in the different prisons he has passed.
“We had never been unable to have any communication with our client,” Gotlib laments in his letter.
