An Argentine court set the start of the new trial on the death of Diego Maradona for March 17, 2026, after the embarrassing suspension of the first trial in May of this year. The first trial in San Isidro, in the north of Buenos Aires, was annulled after one of the judges was removed from the case for participating in an unauthorized documentary of the trial itself. The scandal concluded with the resignation of the other two magistrates who made up the court. In its Yesterday’s resolution, the San Isidro court summoned the parties to a preliminary hearing on November 12 “for the treatment and admission of the evidence offered.” Maradona died on November 25, 2020 due to pulmonary edema while he was in home confinement, where he was recovering from neurosurgery. Eight members of the soccer star’s medical team are accused of homicide with possible intent, a figure that implies that they were aware that their actions could cause the death of the patient.
