Bénédicte Nobile and Philippe Courtet’s critique of our Correspondence1 represents a textbook case of genocide denial and selective moral disengagement. Our Correspondence was based on peer-reviewed publications and reports from respected international organisations, such as WHO and the UN. More robust data are undoubtedly required to corroborate UNICEF‘s assertion that Gaza has “the highest number of child amputees per capita anywhere in the world”.2 Further research is also needed to confirm that child casualties in Gaza since October, 2023, exceed those in all other war zones, as indicated by a review of modern conflicts involving populations under siege or exposed to large-scale urban warfare.
