Several British newspapers, including the Daily Mail and The Times, write that the former footballer has landed a solid deal with Netflix. The American streaming giant will reportedly pay £14 million for the podcast “The Rest is Football” during the championship.
This corresponds to around NOK 190 million.
It is Lineker’s own company “Goalhanger” that has landed the deal. The company works with the production and distribution of podcasts.
Including the well-known football podcast, which will feature frequent episodes during the World Cup.

On the inside
The former football star will host the podcast program alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards. That from a studio in New York, with features from inside the English national team and various “fanzones”.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the three of us to do what we love, to talk about football every day, but on a truly global stage,” Lineker said.
“The deal is the company’s first attempt at live football coverage and is seen as an attempt to challenge YouTube,” describes the Daily Mail.
The podcast “The Rest is Football” is among the world’s most popular football podcasts.

Similar agreements
The Daily Mail writes that Lineker has landed similar deals with “The Rest is Football” in the past.
This summer he made the podcast during the club WC, then with DAZN as producer. He did the same with LaLiga in August.
Lineker’s company also owns the podcasts “The Rest is History” and “The Rest is Politics”.
