Gare du Nord, one of the main railway gateways to Brussels, has just joined the regional heritage preservation list. The decision was confirmed by the office of the Brussels Secretary of State for Urban Planning and Heritage, Ans Persoons (Vooruit). Several major elements of the building with its typical post-war modernist appearance – including the clock tower, the vast Salle des Pas Perdus (photo) and the platforms – are now officially recognized as “monuments”, due to their historical, aesthetic and architectural value.
