Imagine Valve launching its own credit card so you can still buy on Steam. This is the idea here with DLsite, the Japanese shopping site where you can buy games and manga online, including adult products.
Since 2022, the American banking transaction companies VISA and Mastercard have carried out a censorship operation by asking Japanese companies offering adult content for purchase to remove it from sale, under penalty of no longer allowing customers to use credit cards. Although there are bank cards with Japanese transaction operations like JCB, VISA and Mastercard cards remain the majority even there. DLsite, like others, had to choose to abandon support for VISA and Mastercard to continue their business. The CEO of VISA Japan then basically justified their pressure action to preserve their brand image.
Last October DLsite announced its partnership with an online bank to add new payment methods. Today we learned that the parent company of DLsite, viviON, will actually offer bank cards in partnership with JCB. Your choice of physical (it costs €20, however) or digital (free of charge) via the dedicated mobile app. And in order to encourage Japanese consumers to take this new credit card, there is a reduction on any purchase on DLsite with the card until August 2026.

Remember here Atelier Ryza ASMR from Koei Tecmo, sold on DLsite, I had not reported it but it was a success with €100,000 in revenue from the first week (even though it is only the audio in .mp3 format
…).

DLsite, which also launched its own “Twitter” last month, entitled Pommu and very “sub culture friendly”, understand that artists can post suggestive or even NSFW content there (which remains possible on X by the way, not surprising given the popularity of said content). The site crashed following an overload of Internet users, so we had to wait until today for DLsite to reopen Pommu but exclusively for Japanese Internet users.-
