The DJI Osmo 360 is a camera that is designed to have fun creating. Not only because of the possibility of recording in 360 degrees, but because of how it invites you to experiment with framing, movement and subsequent editing. It is a camera that encourages you to try new things and play with impossible perspectives, while maintaining, at the same time, a level of quality that clearly places it at the high end of the action camera market.
One of its great attractions is the new 1-inch square HDR sensor, designed specifically for 360-degree capture. This sensor makes better use of the useful surface, which translates into a notable improvement in image quality and more efficient energy management. The result is cleaner images, with good detail and a wide dynamic range, all in a surprisingly compact and lightweight body of just 183 grams.
In video, the Osmo 360 shines especially with native 8K recording in 360 degrees, an area where DJI marks distances. Large pixels and more than 13 stops of dynamic range allow for very rich scenes, even in complicated situations such as sunrises, sunsets or urban night environments. In addition, the 4K options at 100 fps open the door to very fluid slow motions that provide an extra creative touch to any project.
Low light performance is another strong point. The combination of the large sensor with an f/1.9 aperture is clearly noticeable when night falls or when we are in a closed space with low light. The ‘Super Night’ mode helps recover nuances and details that would simply be lost in other action cameras.
When it comes to photography, the ability to capture images of up to 120 megapixels in 360 degrees is a real delight for those who enjoy exploring every corner of the scene. Added to this is 10-bit recording and the D-Log M profile, which offers great flexibility in post-production and reinforces the creative character of the product. It is not a product designed for taking photos, but it is a ‘plus’ to take into consideration.
Beyond the 360-degree shots, which are the hallmark of this device, the Osmo 360 stands out for its versatility. With a single mode switch, it becomes a single-lens action camera capable of recording in 5K or even 4K at 120 fps, with ultra-wide angles. For vlogging it is especially practical thanks to the fluid change between lenses and the possibility of using the invisible selfie stick, which generates that striking and fun ‘floating camera’ effect. And if we combine it with the DJI microphones, the result is very professional.
As a weak point, we must assume that all this technical deployment implies heavy files and storage management that requires a certain order, despite the 105 GB of internal memory. For its part, the price, which exceeds 400 euros, can also be a barrier for some users. Even so, for those looking for a different camera, capable of offering unique 360-degree effects without giving up great image quality, the DJI Osmo 360 is a very complete proposal and, above all, tremendously stimulating to use.
