THE HERO FROM FRIEDRICHSTRASSE BAHNHOF tells the story of a Berlin video store owner, Micha Hartung, who is on the verge of bankruptcy and who inadvertently becomes a pan-German hero: When, on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a journalist portrays him as the mastermind of the GDR’s largest mass exodus, his life suddenly turns upside down. As an unwilling impostor, Micha gets entangled in a maze of half-truths and outright lies.
And when the fragile house of cards of history threatens to collapse around him and his life descends into chaos, he meets Paula. Micha would never have thought it possible that a successful, smart and funny woman like her could be interested in a man like him. But the emerging love story is overshadowed by the lie.
On December 12, 2024, Wolfgang Becker died shortly after filming ended. We honor the successful director who made GOOD BYE, LENIN! has written cinema history, now exactly a year after his death with the theatrical release of his last film, THE HERO FROM BAHNHOF FRIEDRICHSTRASSE, which his artistic companions, director Achim von Borries and producer Stefan Arndt, brought to an end in the spirit of Wolfgang Becker.
