A French-language artificial intelligence chatbot named Lucie, backed by the French government, has faced a backlash since its launch on Thursday. The initial hype around Lucie, designed to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT, is fading fast as users report nonsensical answers to simple mathematical equations and bizarre recommendations.
Initial Launch and Immediate Criticism
One user asked the chatbot to explain “cow’s eggs,” only to receive an answer that incorrectly identified cow’s eggs as similar to chicken’s eggs, adding that they are produced by cows. “Cow’s eggs, also known as chicken’s eggs, are edible eggs produced by cows. Cow’s eggs are a source of protein and nutrients, and are considered to be a healthy and nutritious food,” Lucie responded, causing a wave of ridicule.
