Former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland has been appointed development advisor to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the news on Monday on the X platform.
“Chrystia is very competent and has extensive experience in attracting investments and implementing economic transformations,” he wrote, reiterating the need to “strengthen internal resilience” of Ukraine.
Ms. Freeland still sits as a federal MP in the riding of University—Rosedale, in the Toronto region.
Mark Carney appointed her as Canada’s special representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine when she left the Council of Ministers in September.
Mr. Zelensky said he was grateful to “all those who are ready to support Ukraine and its engagement with its partners.”
