WhatsApp allows you to know precisely the space it uses within the device.
On Android, the user must enter Settingsthen to Storage and data and select Manage storage from the Chats tab. On iPhone, the route is Settings > Storage & data > Manage storage.
At the top of the screen appears the total space occupied by WhatsAppalong with a breakdown by chats and media files.
Large and forwarded files
The management tool allows you to locate files that consume more memory, such as heavy videos or content forwarded multiple times.
WhatsApp classifies these elements by categories such as More than 5MB o Forwarded several timesmaking it easy to remove quickly. It is also possible to sort files by size, date or age.
Each file shows its exact weight and allows you to verify which chat it comes from before deleting it.
How to delete files without deleting the chat
The user can delete specific photos, videos or documents without deleting the entire conversation.
From Manage storageselect the corresponding chat or channel, mark one or more files and press the delete icon. WhatsApp offers the option of delete all copieswhich is key when the same file appears duplicated.
Once deleted, these files cannot be downloaded again from the chat.
Empty entire chats to free up more space
Another alternative is empty all content of a chatincluding messages, links and multimedia files.
On Android, you access the chat, select More optionsthen Empty chat. On iPhone, you enter the contact or group profile and choose the same option.
This process does not delete the chat or remove the user from the groupsbut it does permanently delete all its content.
Delete files from search
WhatsApp also allows you to delete files using the search bar.
