A wildly underrated indie horror game is available for Steam gamers entirely for free, but it won’t stay that way for long.
Gamers have just days left to get their free copy of Paragnosia from Sine Coda completely for free. Paragnosia will be free until February 23, after which the price will go back up to its usual retail price of $3.49.
Paragnosia Is 100% Free On Steam for a Limited Time
A tense, single-player horror experience with themes and mechanics reminiscent of the likes of Five Nights at Freddy’s, Fatal Frameand hit indie horror walking simulator The Exit 8 alike, Paragnosia lets players take control of a series of cameras set along rails throughout their expansive apartment building. As they explore their environment, players will have to identify and photograph the various supernatural occurrences they happen across.
The official description for Paragnosia from Sine Coda reads, “Observe every corner of your apartment by moving your camera along a rail that runs through the rooms. Find and take pictures of paranormal anomalies to exorcise them. Locked in your surveillance room, will you survive tonight’s 8 rounds?”
Since its release in October 2024, Paragnosia has been met with largely positive reviews from players in spite of avoiding much in the way of mainstream critical coverage. As of the time of writing, Paragnosia boasts a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, as averaged across more than 100 player reviews of the game, 119 of which ranked as “Positive,” including 51 “Very Positive” ratings.
The success of Paragnosia on Steam quickly led to the development of a prequel, Paragnosia: Museumwhich does not currently have a planned release date. Fortunately, a demo prologue to Paragnosia: Museum is available on Steam completely for free right alongside the original game.
The official description for Paragnosia: Museum from Sine Coda reads, “Watch over the Duskheath Museum with a rail-mounted camera. Closed following the death of the conservator, your mission is to photograph the anomalies and exorcise the spirits that have taken possession of the premises. Can you survive the 8 rounds through these mysterious exhibition halls?”
Paragnosia: Museum is set six months prior to the events of the first game, and drops players into the role of an exorcist contracted by the Cam-on-Rail company to investigate the Duskheath Museum in the wake of the gruesome death of its curator, Ezekiel Dunbridge. Not only was Ezekiel’s demise witnessed by numerous employees, but it’s also linked back to his last exhibition, which itself revolved around the occult.
Like the first game, the demo prologue for Paragnosia: Museum has garnered generally favorable reviews. As of the time of writing, the prologue holds 18 reviews in total on Steam, 16 of which are ranked as “Positive.”
Paragnosia is just the latest hit indie title to get a temporary 100% off sale window on Steam. Earlier this month, gamers were given the opportunity to pick up another deeply unsettling, if decidedly subtle, horror experience for free in the form of Lost in Anomaly from Aximus Games.
Much like other twisted walking simulators, Lost in Anomaly tasks players with traversing an otherwise ordinary setting, all while catching onto (and avoiding) the otherworldly anomalies that crop up along their journey.
Paragnosia is completely free to download (and keep) on Steam until February 23.
