If you know or have played Freddy Hardest, chances are you have a lot of gray hair or tired eyes from a lifetime of playing video games. Because “Freddy Hardest” (Dinamic Multimedia, 1987) is about to celebrate its 40th anniversary, it will celebrate a little early with the sequel “Freddy Hardest: Z Planet”, which will be released in 2026.
We recently had the opportunity to interview the project lead on Freddy Hardest: Z Planet at the BCN Game Festival, and below is the full interview with subtitles.
The original game remains one of ZX Spectrum and Amstrad’s most memorable games at a time when video game heroes were mostly cartoons rather than representative of modern action heroes, but Freddy has changed with the times. Complianzen game co-designer Luis Rodriguez said: “ Compared to the original, the first animation was more elegant and looked like an old comic book 。」 “But now, for a new generation, we would rather have Freddy come back as a Marvel superhero, a Marvel-DC style superhero, but with the same personality. Handsome, but a little bit cynical. That’s important, but the spirit of Freddy has to be the same.”
We also asked Gamez Studio CEO Iván Gómez, who is also responsible for development, about which aspects of “Freddy” will remain the same and which will change, but it seems that the focus is to give the IP a new look without forgetting the characters who put it on the throne. He views this difficulty as follows:
“I don’t know if it’s the hardest version, but it’s the coolest version for us because it’s a dream come true because we grew up playing Freddy Harst, and to be able to take a big step in the history of Freddy Hardest is like a dream come true for us.” Dinamic CEO and Executive Producer Pablo Ruiz added : “This is truly a pivotal moment in my life. Freddy Hardest was Dinamico’s superhero who crossed Spanish borders, fought across the galaxy, Europe and the world, and 40 years later he comes back to save us. Thank you, Freddy.”
