Yes, the iPhone 17 Pro Max was released recently. But no, we must not forget one of Apple’s former glories, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is still worth a look, especially at 1,099.99 euros instead of 1,479 euros at Fnac and at Darty in the middle of Black Friday.
The most expensive of all Apple smartphones was updated this year: at the end of 2025, it was the iPhone 17 Pro Max which landed on the market, with its redesigned design, its high-end performance and its impressive autonomy. The only downside: its price, which does not benefit from a special Black Friday reduction. Unlike its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, a very well-equipped iteration, too, and which benefits from a reduction of 380 euros.

Exemplary finishes and a screen that remains as fluid as ever
Owners of an iPhone 15 Pro Max will not be out of place with the 16 Pro Max. Only the iPhone 17 Pro Max received a real facelift. The 16 Pro Max that interests us here adopts a design very close to that of the predecessors, but rest assured, the finishes are still impeccable, and the grip is very pleasant thanks to the flat edges and the frosted glass back. Remember, however, that the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which lives up to its name, is an XXL smartphone: lovers of compact smartphones, move on.
Regarding its screen, it is larger than before (6.9 inches compared to 6.7 inches), and it is, again, surrounded by a titanium frame lighter than the stainless steel fitted to the iterations which preceded generation 15. In terms of resistance, everything is IP68 certified and the Ceramic Shield is still present: this smartphone is therefore very sturdy, even if it does not avoid small scratches.
At the front, we find a Super Retina XDR Pro 4K 120 Hz LTPO panel, which promises a nice, fluid display and good calibration. However, it does not cover the entire DCI-P3 color space. Damage. In terms of maximum brightness, it’s correct with more than 1,000 nits in SDR and more than 2,000 in HDR, but the iPhone 17 Pro Max is near the top with a peak at 2,400 nits in HDR. On the side of the smartphone, you will also find a “Camera control” button, introduced with generation 16, to operate the camera.
The power of the A18 Bionic
In the bowels of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, sits an A18 Bionic SoC, which shows no signs of weakness, performs very well in gaming even with the graphics options pushed to the limit and demonstrates great fluidity on all tasks, including the heaviest such as video editing. The iPhone also heats up much less than its predecessor.
On the software side, iOS 26 arrived recently, with the famous new “Liquid Glass” interface, intelligent call filtering and the transformation of any photo into a spatial 3D scene. Yes, Apple Intelligence is (finally) also in the game, but the AI functions are still too limited in France. We are far from the wealth of Galaxy AI and Gemini.
On the photo side, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is equipped with a 48 Mpx main sensor, a 48 Mpx ultra-wide-angle and a 5x telephoto lens which remains narrow with 12 Mpx. If the device generally tends to produce shots with overexposed scenes, with a rendering that sometimes tends towards yellow, the main sensor captures very beautiful photos. Special mention also for the 15 photographic styles offered. Finally, regarding the autonomy of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, we can approach two days of use.
